We Salute our Ankeny firefighters
I was honored when Ankeny Living Magazine advertising representative; Aaron Burns contacted me to do a quick shoot of the Ankeny Fire Department to Salute and Honor them in the Ankeny Living Magazine (p 28). Working with Aaron was easy, such a wonderful guy.
As a child I remember those field trips to the nearest Fire House, seeing the pole, putting on that protective gear, hearing the sirens, climbing in a truck with the lending hand of one of them. Stories could go on and on.
It was such an honor to meet these Men and Woman. Firefighting is a noble profession. And also one that takes an emotional toll sometimes at the expense of marriages and family life. From family time to holidays. Sometimes we forget this, sometimes there are those that say that is what they signed up for. Yes, they did, but they did it not only as a career, but to protect their community.
The Fire Department's mission is to prevent the loss of life and property. In addition to responding to fires, the Ankeny Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services also responds to medical emergencies, motor vehicle accidents, rescue calls, and incidents involving hazardous materials.
